WHAT IS IT?
A mammogram is a low dose x-ray of the breast which is used to aid in early detection and diagnosis of breast disease.
I AM COMING IN FOR THIS TEST WHAT CAN I EXPECT?
You will be taken into the mammography suite and will be given a gown to change into. Two views will be taken of each breast. Some discomfort may occur. Minimum amount of compression will be used to obtain quality images.
INDICATIONS:
Screening for any abnormality of the breast.
PREPARATION:
Do not use any deodorant, lotion or body powder on the chest or under the arms.
The American Cancer Society recommends yearly screening mammograms starting at the age of 40.
All mammograms at Cullman Internal Medicine are done by a certified mammographer.
