WHAT IS IT?
A vascular study is related to the blood vessels in your body. The vascular studies of your legs or arms will allow proper visualization of the arteries and veins that supply your legs and feet or arms the with necessary blood flow.
WHAT CAN I EXPECT?
The ultrasound technologist will use a transducer and gel to examine the artery in both legs beginning in the groin all the way to your ankle. Doppler ultrasound will be used to detect and observe the flow pattern in your legs. Blood Pressure will be taken in your arms and legs to obtain an Ankle/Brachial Index which will assist your doctor in detecting any vascular disease which may be present. The test will take approximately 30-45 minutes.

VENOUS EXAM
The ultrasound technologist will use a transducer and gel to examine the major vein in your leg from your groin to your ankle. You may feel slight pressure as the vein is compressed to ensure proper blood flow is present. The test will last approximately 30-40 minutes. Doppler ultrasound will be used to detect and observe blood flow in the vein.
ARM ULTRASOUND
If this test is ordered on your arms the ultrasound technologist will put gel on your arm and use a transducer to take pictures. Doppler ultrasound may also be used to detect blood flow.
