WHAT IS IT?
This is a nuclear medicine test done to provide information about the structure and the function of the thyroid gland.
I AM COMING IN FOR THIS TEST WHAT CAN I EXPECT?
This is a 2-day test. The first day you will have to swallow a capsule. This is a radioactive-iodine capsule. The second day of the test pictures of your thyroid will be taken. You will need to lie on your back on a table for 30 minutes. A calculation of the function of your thyroid will be obtained on this day also.
INDICATIONS:
Thyroid nodules/lumps
Abnormal thyroid lab tests
Hypothyroidism
Hyperthyroidism
Swelling of the neck
Hoarseness
HOW DO I PREPARE FOR THIS TEST?
There is no preparation for this test except:
IF YOU ARE ON THYROID MEDICINE YOU WILL NEED TO BE OFF OF IT FOR SIX WEEKS BEFORE THE TEST IS DONE!!!!
