WHAT IS IT?
A parathyroid scan is a nuclear study to detect parathyroid adenomas.
I AM COMING IN FOR THIS TEST WHAT CAN I EXPECT?
A patient coming in for this test will receive an injection of a radioactive material in your arm. A set of pictures will be taken of your neck area 30 minutes and 3 hours after the injection. Each set of pictures will take about 30 minutes. You will need to lie on your back and be very still for the pictures.
INDICATIONS:
Elevated calcium level on lab work
HOW DO I PREPARE FOR THIS TEST?
There is no preparation for this test.
